Between my knee replacement and shoulder surgeries, there was no way this Admiral was able to use that torture feature on the stern of our Mac laughingly referred to as a swim ladder. So, being married to Bill, a.k.a. "Tim the Tool Man," he solved the problem. He purchased two swim ladders, removed all but one step on one and added the other steps to the second ladder. And voila' -- a one-step ladder for boarding / de-boarding the boat from the dock, and a decent swim ladder that goes far enough below the water to make it relatively easy to get in and out of the water.
BRACKETS
Bill mounted brackets for the ladder handles on both starboard and port sides. He also adapted the support for the BBQ to sit on these brackets as well.
ONE-STEP LADDER
Below is a photo of BB2 all decked out at the Beaufort docks during the 2011 Pirate Sail weekend. You can see the one step ladder in place to enter/exit the boat at the dock. If you look further toward the bow, you can see the longer ladder resting against the life line just above the windows.

My husband and I just purchased a 2011 MacGregor 2011, and, like you, I have mobility issues.
Can you tell me what the mounting hardware for your ladder is called? Or did your husband have the hardware custom made?
I've been looking, too. I think I found it - "boat handrail fitting" But check the sizing on these.
